Dataton Watchout Version 7 Quickstart Guide

A Scalable Integration Guide for Dataton Watchout 7 Users

This Guide is designed to assist users of Scalable Display Software to successfully implement MPCDI V.2 with Dataton Watchout V.7. Before moving forward, it is assumed that the user has completed all necessary calibration steps within the Scalable software to be able to export an MPCDI file.

Note

It is important to note that Dataton Watchout Version 6 only supports MPCDI Version 1 files. If your system requires the use of MPCDI Version 2 files, please upgrade to Dataton Watchout Version 7 and then continue with this Quickstart Guide.

Exporting From Scalable

After configuration and calibration of your screen is complete, please navigate to the Exports Panel in Scalable and follow these few steps to export your MPCDI Version 1 file.

  1. Select MPCDI from the list of available warp application methods within Scalable.
  2. Select 2 under MPCDI Version, and it is recommended to leave all other settings set to default.
  3. Select Update Calibration. The Scalable.mpcdi calibration file will be written out to - C:\Program Files\Scalable Display\DEI\SystemData\DefaultSystem\LastCalibration - Remember this location for when it is time to upload this file into Dataton Watchout.

Dataton Watchout 7 Setup

Ensure that your Host PC has a licensed Watchout Producer instance running, and every needed Client device has a licensed Watchout Manager instance running.

  1. On the Host machine, when you start Watchout Producer, you will be prompted to either start a new show or load a previously saved show.
  2. You will be redirected to the Producer Workspace, but it is recommended to save your project to a specific location at this time.
  3. At this time, you can also ensure all clients have a running instance of Watchout Manager.
  4. To import your Scalable.MPCDI file, navigate to the Assets Window, right-click, and select New/Add > Add Media File.
  5. Follow this file path to find the Scalable.MPCDI file: C:\Program Files\Scalable Display\DEI\SystemData\DefaultSystem\LastCalibration
  6. Click and drag the MPCDI that was added onto the Stage Panel.
  7. Navigate to the Device Window and select a Projector to see and change its settings in the Device Properties Window
  8. Change the Node to ensure the projector is correctly assigned to its Client Device.
  9. Ensure that your "Output Configuration" matches your system setup and that you assign a channel # to the projector. This numbering starts at "1" and goes up, but Scalable files start at "0" and go up, so ensure that projector 0 is channel 1, projector 1 is channel 2...
  10. Select the Grey Heart to enable the connection between Producer and Manager for that Projector.
  11. Repeat Steps 7-10 for each projector in your system.
  12. To add content for playback to your project, navigate to the Assets Window, right-click, and select New/Add > Add Media File. Select a media file from your PC.
  13. Click and drag the media file you imported to the Main Timeline
  14. Projectors will now be outputting the Calibrated, Warped/Blended results. To stop projecting content, you can select the hearts on each projector to break the connection.
